Material Selection & Design

You select your favorites from manufacturers, materials, and colors, then I help you to design a highly aesthetic space in your yard with ground marking paint.  Later, I formalize the design in software and produce a formal quote for you.  This gives you the best opportunity to visualize what your back yard will look like before committing to a design.

02

Material Ordering

We live in an era of supply chain problems and long lead times for simple items.  I order your material and no work is started until the material ships to minimize the amount of time your yard is disturbed.

Excavation

Every manufacturer has a minimum amount of stone they require for a product, whether it is 4 inches or 12 inches. I always meet the minimum but I frequently go above it.  This starts by digging until I hit something solid.  I have had to dig as deep as 3 feet until I find firm ground.  Any stonework laid on loose, wet, or decomposing material will settle unevenly over time.

04

Stone Underlayment

Stone is laid as required in 4 inch beds.  If the area needs to be raised, new stone is used not dirt, sand or fiill.

05

Proper Compaction

The stone is compacted with a vibratory compactor in 4 inch lifts to ensure proper compaction.

06

Sand & Brick

The pavers are laid into a bed of precisely graded loose sand.

07

Cutting

Pavers are cut into precise patterns with a diamond bladed masonry saw.

09

Finishing up

Pavers are compacted into the sand with a vibratory compactor.

Sand or a polymer is used to fill the joints.

Dirt is filled around the edges and grass seed is planted to heal the lawn.

An optional sealer may be applied.
